SUCH SIGHTS, SUCH SOUNDS

Japan’s underground lies far outside of the big theaters and packed stadiums, in venues with unconventional layouts, a varied cast of characters, and thought provoking visual designs and fashions.

The music itself is equally as colorful. From experimental hip hop to blackened doom to harsh noise and everything in between, you’ll be hard pressed to find something that doesn’t fit your tastes in Japan’s national sonic offering.

But a lot of it is damn near impossible to find.

A WEALTH OF EXPERIENCE

Based out of Tokyo, Japan, Kaala has produced countless shows and tours across Japan’s underground, released records on both sides of the Pacific, taken documentary films on the road, and contributed to the normalization of new media products.

We’ve also been to 1000s of shows, in 10s of bands, and supported our fare share of festivals. Which is to say, we’re experienced managing the many aspects of all that creates this wonderful scene. And quite passionate about bringing it to you.

TOTAL ACCESS TO EXTREME JAPAN

You’re here for access to the most ferocious sounds of Japan because its a pretty inaccessible scene. And its not just the bands themselves - music scenes are complex cultural organisms with many moving parts. Sure, the bands are important, but so is everything else.

Our newsletter fixes this. In it, you’ll not only get concert recommendations, but band links, venue maps, hotel recommendations, info on notable bars, and much more so that when you decide to jump in, you do so maximally.
